What does it mean to take Spiritual Education and Enrichment (SEE) courses for credit?
SEE offers three programs of study that are based on 22 required courses and three elective courses. Each time a course is taken for credit, a student earns 10 credits.
- Spiritual Enrichment Program – If you are on your spiritual path, and simply want to learn for the joy of learning and do not want to do homework, you may enroll in our Spiritual Enrichment Program as an audit student. You will earn a Certificate in Spiritual Enrichment if you complete all 25 classes. Or you may also choose to take only those classes that interest you. In that case you would not earn a certificate.
- Spiritual Development Program – You may want to more deeply engage the material and do homework, and perhaps you are working toward being a licensed Unity teacher. If this is the case, you will want to enroll in our Spiritual Development Program. You will take the same classes as the Spiritual Enrichment Program and earn 250 credits. The difference is that you will be required to do all of the reading and all of the assignments.
- Finally, you may know that you are interested in becoming a Unity minister. If that is the case, please contact our registrar at SEE@unityonline.org or 816-251-3535, Ext. 2050 to discover what classes you need to take as prerequisites for applying to the ministerial program.
Once you have completed the 250 credits for the Spiritual Education Certificate, you are eligible to take classes in our 120-credit (12-course) Leadership Development Program. You may take these classes simply to further your spiritual growth, or you may enroll in the Licensed Unity Teacher Program that is sponsored by the Association of Unity Churches International.

You will receive a copy of the updated transcript by e-mail or regular U.S. Mail. Your transcript will be available only to you and Unity faculty, administration and staff. Release of your records requires your written permission.
Will my postings be kept confidential?
Being enrolled in an online course is much like being enrolled in an on campus course. A confidentiality agreement can be made between students and the instructor. However, we have no way of preventing a student from inappropriately sharing information that they have read online or heard during class. The instructor evaluates your weekly discussion contributions. Shortly after the conclusion of the course, discussion forum content is only available to SEE staff. At some point, it will be purged from storage.

While it is always an advantage to read the material in advance, please be sure to have your books by the time the class begins. There will be weekly reading assignments.
On Campus
To get the most out of SEE courses, we recommend reading as many of the required books as possible before you arrive. Once you’re here, you’ll want to pace yourself in your studies, leaving time for reflection as you begin to integrate the material into your spiritual life.
Since the on campus classes meets only five times, how lenient is the attendance policy?
Because courses are condensed into one-week sessions, missing a little means missing a lot. Perfect attendance is required of all students wishing to receive course credit. However, if you have an emergency while on campus, your instructor will make this determination.

Will you allow me to mix and match classes to suit my interests?
Spiritual Enrichment
Yes, you may mix and match classes according to your interests. If you simply want to learn for the joy of learning and do not want to do homework, you may enroll in our Spiritual Enrichment Program as an audit student. You will earn a Certificate in Spiritual Enrichment if you complete all 25 classes. Or, you may also choose to take only those classes that interest you. In that case you will not earn a certificate.
Spiritual Development
We want you to be responsible for your learning and achieve the objectives you’ve set for your spiritual growth. The suggested order of the curriculum (A1, A2, A3, B1, B2 and B3) we recommend will help you reach those goals, and we’ll be glad to help you make changes in your schedule according to your special interests. You may be able to complete the entire Spiritual Development Program by combining online interactive classes and classes at your local Unity church. However, if you are planning on taking any classes on campus carefully plan in advance which classes you wish to take to optimize your visit.
Please note that altering the recommended schedule may mean you’ll have to attend more sessions on campus or online to fulfill your graduation requirements. We hope you’ll understand that upholding the highest standards for everybody means we can’t make exceptions.
How do I count credits in the Spiritual Development Program? And what does it take to graduate?
You may take up to 40 credits per session on campus or in at a local Unity church. However, online students may exceed this limit with the approval of the Dean of SEE. When you’ve earned the 220 required credits and 30 elective credits, you’ll be recognized as a graduate of the Spiritual Development Program and receive a diploma. However, you must complete the accumulation of credits within ten years. Credits older than 10 years are obsolete and must be earned again for inclusion in a current education program.During every on-campus SEE session graduates are recognized at a Thursday evening banquet.

Once I graduate, may I still take courses?
We believe learning is lifelong. We hope you will continue to take SEE courses as often as you like.
