Nehemiah Service Retreats
Upcoming Nehemiah Dates for 2014:
July 27–Aug 1
“I slept and dreamt that life was joy. I awoke and saw that life was service. I acted, and behold! Service was joy!” —Rabindranath Tagore
Like Nehemiah and his community of volunteers, our Nehemiah Retreat volunteers come together in sacred service to rebuild and restore the grounds and buildings of Unity Village for a week. The main part of each day consists of restoration and construction work, while morning and evening programs provide time for inner restoration through spiritual renewal and fellowship. View typical schedule.
Each Nehemiah Service Retreat focuses on a different work project. Volunteers should be able to lift objects weighing up to 40 pounds and work on their feet for three hours or more at a time in hot or cool weather. Work can include but is not limited to:
|• Painting (both interior and exterior)||• Rebuilding stone walls|
|• Repairing stucco surfaces of buildings||• Landscaping|
In recognition of the service each volunteer provides during these retreats, Unity provides each guest with complimentary room and board for the week. Volunteers are responsible for their own transportation to Unity Village. The retreat begins at 4:30 p.m. on Sunday evening and includes dinner and orientation. You are welcome to check in to your room as early as 3 p.m. on that day. Please contact Customer Care at 800-669-0282 if you need to arrange an earlier check-in time. The retreat officially ends on Thursday evening with our Celebration Banquet at 5:30 p.m., and Friday is an optional day to stay and enjoy the Village. Breakfast and lunch will be available at the Unity Inn on Friday.
