Group Service Retreats at Unity
Unity offers group service retreats—called Nehemiah Service Retreats—to Unity community members who wish to build connection and fellowship through hands-on volunteer service at Unity Village, the world headquarters of the Unity spiritual movement.
What Might I Be Doing at the Service Retreat?
Nehemiah Service Retreats focus on work projects. Volunteers should be able to lift objects up to 40 pounds and climb up and down ladders. They should be able to work on their feet for as many as seven (7) hours each day, for four (4) consecutive days, with scheduled breaks and meals.
Work may include but is not limited to:
- Furniture moving or event setup
- Archives or office work
What Does an Average Day Look Like?
The main part of each day consists of restoration and project work, while evening programs provide time for inner restoration through spiritual renewal and fellowship.
The Nehemiah Service Retreats begin at 4:30 p.m. on Sunday and include dinner and orientation. You are welcome to check in to your room as early as 3 p.m. on that day. The retreat officially ends on Thursday evening.View Sample Schedule View Flyer
What Is the Cost?
There is no cost to participate in Nehemiah Service Retreats. However, volunteers are responsible for their own transportation to and from Unity Village. Once you arrive, Unity provides each guest with a double-occupancy room and meals for the week. If you don't already have a roommate selected, our Retreats team will pair you with one.

Nehemiah, found in the Old Testament, was a Jewish leader who supervised the rebuilding of Jerusalem in the mid-fifth century B.C. after his release from captivity by the Persian king, Artaxerxes I.
Like Nehemiah of the Bible, our Nehemiah Service Retreats volunteers come together in sacred service to rebuild and restore the grounds and buildings of Unity Village for one week.
